The Find: Most designer snake motifs are a charm stuck to a temple. The Marutea does it the Cavalli way: the serpent is the structure. A scale-engraved palladium body rises off each temple, coils around the outer edge of the lens, and settles its head at the brow. In profile it reads as jewelry you happen to see through. Made in Italy circa 2013, part of the island-named eyewear series from the founder's Florence house, and since discontinued. The everyday black cat eye cannot do what this does when the light hits those scales.
