The Find: Mid-2000s Baby Phat at the height of the Kimora Lee Simmons run, when the footwear line was doing sculpted wedges in printed satin with pavé hardware and leather soles. This is the black and white leopard, printed in an ikat-style brushstroke rather than a flat spot, with a crystal set ring medallion anchoring the toe straps. The monochrome colorway is the harder one to find. Most surviving Baby Phat animal print from this era is tan or gold. Peak-era pieces like this one are the part of the archive that collectors actually chase, and they are not the same thing as the licensed shoes that came later.
The Details:
- Black and white leopard print satin upper, sculpted wedge heel covered in the matching print
- Silver tone pavé crystal ring medallion at the toe, curled center motif fully set in crystals
- Slim print toe straps with contrast topstitching threaded through the medallion
- Adjustable ankle strap with silver tone buckle
- Open toe, open sided silhouette
- Black patent finish lining with the Baby Phat script logo plaque at the insole
- Leather sole
Measurements: Size 7.5 B. Approximately 3.5" wedge heel at its tallest point.
Condition: Good vintage condition with one disclosure that matters. The ankle straps are replacements, not original. They are black and read slightly different in material and finish from the printed straps at the toe, which is visible in the photos. The rest of the shoe is original. The printed satin is clean and bright across both uppers and both wedges. Crystals are all present and secure in both medallions. Fabric fraying at the edges of the heel counters where the straps attach. Soles show wear consistent with use, and a partial paper style sticker remains on the right insole. Nothing structural. These are wearable as they are.
Authenticity: Guaranteed authentic Baby Phat by Kimora Lee Simmons.
